CenturyLink $500 Million Federal Funds Drops to Broadband Task for 33 States in Five Years

On August 27, the FCC (federal communications commission), said the CenturyLink has received more than $500 million in federal funds. This funds will be drops to broadband connections for 2.3 million rural users  in  the next five years.

Accepted the connection of around $506 million U.S. Fund (Connect America Fund, CAF) after the CenturyLink promised to covers 33 states  broadband connectionwith 40% of the users in 2017, the proportion to reach 60% by the end of 2018, 80% in 2019 and 100% in 2020 respectively.


Down to the states, big spending will include the state of Missouri ($77 million), ($55 million) in Wisconsin, Minnesota ($54 million), ($26 million) in Colorado and Washington ($24 million).The broadband access network  is a good news for  ADTRAN and Calix  both of them were just get  the new agreement for equipment business.


As for the bradband network covers of 33 states in USA, there will be more rural users will purchase iptv equipments, such as set top box with optical, and iptv ott tv android boxes, Televisions with network and so on. This will bring more business chance for eletronics owners,wholesales and distributors.


Create the pressure of the local broadband network is also likely to need a new cooperation.This summer, in NTCA rural broadband (association) of regional meeting, the association President Shirley Bloomfield said the organization has been negotiating with CenturyLink.One possibility is that NTCA members, all from the rural areas and towns telecom company) will cooperate with CenturyLink to speed up the construction of broadband access network, to meet the deadline for the federal government.
